Navid Afshar

Las Vegas Attorney Michael Trippiedi

Navid Afshar, a Chicago transplant, has called Las Vegas home for over 25 years. Navid has deep roots to the Southern Nevada community, having completed his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

During, and after law school, Navid worked for both personal injury and insurance defense firms. He then worked as a judicial law clerk, learning valuable skills, firsthand, in the courtroom, while improving his legal writing skills. Eventually, he joined the prestigious Clark County Special Public Defender’s Office. During his tenure with the CCSPD, Navid sat through several felony jury trials, where he provided assistance with pre-trial motions, jury selection, and raised objections and provided legal arguments throughout trial. Navid completed several appeals, including working on two capital cases – one of which resulted in a non – death sentence verdict. He also had the opportunity to argue in front of the Nevada Supreme Court.

Navid has been on the forefront of helping pursue creative legal strategies. Along with colleagues, he helped ensure that juries selected in Nevada comprised a Fair Cross Section of the community. He presented several CLE’s to other colleagues on juror selection issues,

how to raise the challenges, and what arguments to anticipate regarding challenges to composition of juries.

Eventually, Navid made his way to the Federal Public Defender’s Office in Nevada, where he was blessed to work with and learn from some of the most talented criminal defense practitioners in the country. During his tenure with the FPD’s office, he further honed his legal skills, not only through extensive motion practice and court hearings, but by attending several critical trainings on legal writing and oral advocacy held in other districts throughout the federal system. During his time at the FPD, he completed two two jury trials, one of which resulted in an acquittal on all counts. (He was especially proud of this result as almost 98% of federal cases in Nevada result in either a guilty plea or verdict of guilt.)

In his free time, Navid enjoys spending time with friends and family and discovering new hobbies. (A self-described ‘foodie,’ he especially enjoys trying new restaurants.) As a first generation Iranian-American, Navid is fluent in Farsi.
